Connect in a casual atmosphere with an archaeological collections expert to gain insight into the Sustainable Archaeology McMaster facility as a hub for collections and for research....
Sustainable Archaeology McMaster (SA McMaster) is an archaeological collections repository and research space located at the McMaster Innovation Park (MIP) in Hamilton. It was founded in response to the long-standing provincial archaeological 'Collections Crisis' as a place that could both curate collections and facilitate access to further collections-based research and avoid more and more new excavations. SA McMaster functions as a laboratory within the Department of Anthropology at McMaster University, but also as a Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries- (MHSTCI-) accredited 'public institution'. We can legally accept collection deposits (transfers) from P-Licensees, removing their 'forever' responsibilities to those collections. This presentation will offer a background to SA McMaster, our capabilities and our work towards partnerships and collaboration and will also provide a brief virtual walk-through of the facility.
So, whether you have been working with archaeological collections for decades or are in the formative phase of your career, this online conversation will be of interest and is intended to be a presentation format with time for questions and answers.
Learn new things, share knowledge with each other, obtain expert advice and tips to help you delve deeper into your understanding of the present and future of archaeological collections in southern Ontario.
APA member Dr. Scott Martin is providing this session, streaming from the SA McMaster facility, and he hopes that you will submit questions in advance to help customize the information to best suit your interests!
