Why Join |
In addition to publishing a newsletter which keeps the membership informed of recent developments affecting the practice of archaeology in Ontario, the Association represents its membership on an ongoing basis with government and other agencies concerned with archaeological issues.
For the benefit of its members the Association sponsors lectures and workshops on various topics for professional development, networking and camaraderie, and business skills purposes. Past sessions have been organized for professional standards & guidelines, cultural awareness/traditional knowledge, lithics production, ceramic analysis and interpretation, hands-on palaeobotany identification, and more. Our members are encouraged to participate in the activities of the Association and to suggest ways in which we can improve our service to archaeology.
Members also receive free access to APA's Occasional Papers and Newsletters, and discounts to some of the publications that are featured in our Online Store.
The association hosts a 'Members-Only' section on this web site. Premium content includes: Links to Web-Based Archaeological Tools and Information Resources, Latest News, Professional Development, Products, APA Job Bank, Guidelines. The APA also posts news from municipalities and government regarding archaeological issues. In addition, our members-only section is a private online `meeting place for our members where we engage in discussion via our online news blog and forums.
If you are a Consultant looking for employees, you can search the members-only online APA Job Bank. Developers and others looking for the services of a professional archaeologist can submit RFPs or Job Postings and we will publish this information to the private online APA Job Bank.
If you are a professional archaeologist or a student and an APA member, you can submit your C.V./resume for posting in the private members area of our website. You can email your resume or C.V. in PDF format and we will post it to our APA Job Bank. See here for more information. APA members can consult the list for potential employees.
The Association of Professional Archaeologists draws its membership from practicing professional archaeologists and their peers in related cultural resource management fields in the Province of Ontario and across North America. Our members derive the greater part of their income from archaeological practice. Business, academic, and ethical issues are addressed at our bi-annual AGM & Workshops, in our Newsletters, and on our Website. The Association is engaged in a number of exciting initiatives for the coming year and welcomes your input.
Please consider adding your voice to the growing membership of the APA by applying for membership (Professional, Field Director, First Nations Consultation Staff, First Nations Liaison, Associate, Student or Institutional) or renewing your existing membership. Together we can work towards a professional environment in which the objectives of advancement of knowledge, heritage resource conservation, and secure professional practice can be met.
