This workshop, presented by Nick Gromoff, will provide basic instruction on how to date historic period assemblages with a focus on the dates key to working within the MTCS 2011 Standards and Guidelines, i.e. pre-1830, pre/post-1870 and 20th century. In particular, information will be provided on how to successfully recommend no further CHVI for qualifying late 19th century sites in the context of MTCS's Rural Homesteads bulletin. Points that will be addressed include sample size and distribution, supporting historic documentation and artifact analysis.
Two case studies will be shown where sites that included pre-1900 occupation were successfully recommended to have no further CHVI.
Lunch will be provided and is included in the cost of the workshop.
